The Franklin Community Health Council is presenting a program entitled The Prevention of Underage Drinking on Tuesday, April 27, 2010, from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. in the Franklin High School Lecture Hall. This national event is sponsored by the Federal Government’s Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Prevention of Underage Drinking and statewide by the MA Department of Public Health, Bureau of Substance Abuse Services.
The forum will address local initiatives, offer practical strategies for communicating more effectively with teens, identify community resources and discuss prevention solutions for parents in the Franklin community. The panel will include Officer Dan MacLean, Mardi Donovan, Bill Phillips, New Beginnings Programs, and students and parents of students in recovery.
The Franklin Community Health Council was re-established in 2008 in response to the district middle and high school Metro West Youth Risk Behavior Survey results. From this student-reported data on risky behaviors, the Council pledged to support current school programs and curricula by providing additional educational programs to parents and students.
